    Before thermometers were invented, brewers would dip a thumb or finger into the mix to find the right temperature for adding yeast. Too cold, and the yeast wouldn't grow. Too hot, and the yeast would die. This thumb in the beer is where "rule of thumb" comes from.

All About Beer Magazine in association with Beer Army presented the 2017 Beer Wars in January 2017. Our Copper John took first in the Scottish export category and our Black Ghost earned third place in the oatmeal stout category. According to Beer Army, 268 entries were judged in 34 major categories.
